General Information
GENERAL RULES »

The Americas Multiple Events Cup will be governed by the IAAF Rules in force for 2008-2009.


  1. The general items not included in these rules will be settled off by the Organizing Committee.

  2. If the items are of a technical nature, they will be settled as per the IAAF Rules special provisions set for Multiple Events in its Article 200.

SPECIFIC PROVISIONS »

Among the specific provisions of Article 200 of the IAAF for multiple events, the following are included:


  1. Scores will be according to the enforce score Tables (2001 edition) of the IAAF for multiple events.

  2. Athletes’ scores will be announced per event and the total score of competitors at the end of each event.
  3. A single scoring system will be used –an electronic system for athletes’ record in the races.
  4. The winner of the competition will be the one with highest points. In case of tie, the athlete that has won the higher number of events with more points will be the winner. If tie continues, the athlete with the highest number of points in an event will be considered the winner.
  5. Athletes will have three (3) attempts in throwing and long jump events.
  6. Regarding the false start, athletes will be disqualified as of the second infraction.
  7. The rest time between events will be thirty (30) minutes as a minimum.

AWARDS »

Prize Money Awards will be presented to the best eight ranked athletes in each discipline (Decathlon and Heptathlon). The awards will be distributed as follows:

The awarding ceremony and delivery of prizes will be organized during the Farewell banquet.



JUDGES »

The judges and auxiliary staff to be in charge of the competition will be proposed by the Cuban Track and Field Federation.


OTHER PROVISIONS »

Regarding the composition of the groups in the multiple events, the heats and the starting heights, the following is established:

    Groups and Heats
      Groups A and B will be established in each of the multiple event in order to have a better distribution of competitors in the races and vertical jump heats (two areas in the stadium), considering athletes’ performance in each of the events, with the exception of Final events (800m / 1500m) where the criteria depends on the composition of the heats according to the points scored in the last event, in order to compete in the final event of the same heat.
    Starting Height
      The starting height in the high jump and pole vault events will be informed at the Technical Meeting of the Americas Multiple Events Cup. Each delegation shall submit to the Secretary of the Competition the starting height of its athletes for the high jump and pole vault events. The height progression in high jump will be 3 cm and in pole vault 10 cm throughout the competition.

CALL ROOMS »

Participants shall go to the call rooms 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time in the track events and 40 minutes in the field events.

Athletes will be identified in the call rooms based on their accreditation and numbers (dorsal); competition equipment will be checked as per the IAAF rules (shoes, length and number of spikes of more than 6 mm, except in the high jump and javelin throwing events, where spikes of 9 mm as a maximum can be used).

Delegates or officials are not allowed at the call rooms.

The attendance Schedule at the call rooms will be the following:

The entry to the track and the jump and throwing area is done in an ordered way, preceding the judges and the protocol guide, until finally reaching the competition site. At the completion of the event, they will leave the competition area by the same place the entered the track accompanied by a judge.


REST AREA FOR ATHLETES »

A comfortable area will be available at the Pan American Stadium for athletes rest between events. These areas will provide physiotherapy, moisturizing and medical services.


COACHES AREA »

In the field events, coaches will be located in an area close to athletes, so as to provide them their assistance. The access to this area will be restricted to one coach per delegation, who should have been previously authorized at the Technical Meeting.

SPORT EQUIPMENT »

All equipment to be used at the competition will by provided by the Technical Management of the Americas Multiple Events Cup, with the exception of the poles, which shall be submitted to the jump referee two hours prior to the start of the event.

If any athlete is interested in using personal equipment, this shall be certified the previous day at the corresponding session until 12:00 hours, at the Pan American Stadium.

The organization shall authorize equipment different to those of the organization as long as they are submitted to the Technical Director of the event the day prior to the start of the event.


DOPING TESTS »

The NACAC, the CONSUDATLE and the Organizing Committee shall reserve the right to conduct the doping tests they consider necessary in order to proceed to the Doping Control requested by IAAF rules. All competitors must be available for the tests planned.


JURY OF APPEAL »

All complaints shall be firstly made verbally to the Judge-Referee by the athlete or his delegate. Claims shall be solved by the Jury of Appeal, to be composed of three persons appointed by the President of the Pan American Track and Field Commission. The Jury of Appeal main function, as stated in Article 7-9 of the IAAF Regulations, will be to analyze all protests as mentioned in Article 143. Protests shall be submitted in writing and accompanied by US$100.00.


TECHNICAL INFORMATION CENTER»

The Technical Information Center will be located in the Pan American Stadium and will provide the result of the different events, in addition to athlete’s total points. The number of each athlete shall be provided by the Secretary of the Competition at the technical meeting. Athletes shall bear their dorsal as per IAAF Regulation 143, items 7-9. No athlete is authorized to mutilate or alter the number assigned for the competition.


TECHNICAL MEETING »

The Technical Meeting of the Americas Multiple Events Cup will be held at the Meliá Habana Hotel, on May 28 at 10:00 hrs. All issued related to the competition will be discussed at the Technical Meetings, like: seeding of athletes of the first day, starting height and progression, athletes area, coaches area, rest area and competition Schedule, etc.


TRAINING SCHEDULE »

Athletes will train at the Pan American Stadium on Thursday, May 28 and on the warming track close to the stadium, all the day.
